What is Music Mentoring?

At J.Fox Soul we take a unique approach to music education. We’re not just about teaching you how to play your instrument. We delve deeper into a holistic understanding of music through practise. Everything we teach is hands-on, real-world and contemporary. We believe that every person has their own way of learning, so rather than having a set curriculum or a work book to make our lives easier, we are dedicated to engaging with each of our students on an individual level and learning what makes you tick! Once we have an idea of how you learn, what your interests and goals are, we can tailor an individualised program just for you to maximise your learning capacity and, most importantly, bring you maximum joy!

What can I learn at J.Fox Soul?

J.Fox Soul Mentoring is designed specifically with the career musician in mind, so if you are a songwriter, aspiring producer, performing artist, or band looking for a real kick-start of knowledge and understanding, you’ve come to the right place. All of our mentors are PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS, not professional teachers. Most of them have years of experience in teaching of course, but their primary careers are as active working musicians. This means they have all done hundreds if not thousands of gigs, toured nationally and internationally, written songs with some of the world’s top artists, worked as players and producers in the studio, and released albums to the world. In a nutshell, they know what they are doing, and are willing to share their years of hard-learned experience and secrets of success with you!

But I am only new to this music thing!

No sweat! We are excited to help you start your journey. Whether your ambitions are professional, or just for pleasure and self-expression it does not matter to us. If you’re a complete beginner, an amateur ready to start performing, or already in the professional realm looking to brush up in a few areas, we are ready for you!

What does it cost, and how do I pay?

It’s simple! A 30 minute session costs $35, and a full hour costs $70. Weekly sessions are a MUST and we highly recommend going for the full hour if you can afford to as we’ve found that doubling the time seems to triple the value of the learning for the student. We work on a month-to-month basis. No contracts or subscriptions required, you simply pay for the month ahead in one go, and each month that you’re happy to continue, top it back up!

We accept Cash or Cheque at the first lesson of each month, or Direct Deposit to our bank account (details will be on your invoice). Bank deposit must be received by the first lesson of the month, so get in early!

Where does the mentoring happen?

You will work with our mentors out of our professional recording studio facility, Foxden Studio in Burleigh Heads (Gold Coast, Australia). The studio has a large collection of keyboards, guitars, amps and effects pedals as well a fully operational Protools and Logic based recording studio. In some cases we are able to come to your home, or work with you online (via Skype, MSN etc.) but as our studio has air-conditioning, a kitchenette with tea and coffee readily available, a toilet, a comfortable waiting room, and all the musical equipment you could ever need, we prefer to do it here!

All ages, all experience levels are WELCOME!

Remember, it’s never too late or too early to start your musical journey. We have worked with kids as young as four years old, and adults well into their sixties, and we’re hoping to broaden that threshold even more!
